What Your Gifts Will Accomplish Through Good Shepherd
SmartStart School Scholarships (SSSS)
SmartStart helps people to restart their lives through education so they can
live their dreams. They realize they have made some mistakes and now wish to
change the course of their lives in a serious way through schooling. Your
designated gift will give them the financial means to get them their education
through courses, books, supplies and vocational tools.
Supportive Housing
Our 4-unit single bedroom, furnished apartments stabilizes young men’s lives
when they are utterly homeless and have no where else to turn. Good Shepherd
rigorously screens them to determine what positive rehabilitative behaviors they
have already demonstrated before coming to the house so that your precious gifts
are not squandered. Stabilized housing gives them a base to launch from, thus
empowering the men to become successful citizens for themselves and their
children
Furniture Panty
The pantry enables men and especially women with children to gather the
furniture and household items they need for free or at a nominal price as they
set up a new residence. Whether coming from spousal abuse or coming out of a
state facility, the items help them to restore their dignity and to have a sense
of pride, ownership and independence. Your gift will help us to keep our doors
open in this way.
Clothing Pantry
The Pantry for Men and Women provides the needy with clothing items ranging from
summer shoes to winter coats, and from work clothes to dress clothes for
interviewing or church. Hygiene items, such as razors, toothbrushes and perfume/
cologne help them to feel good and look great. A man named Tom came to us in
February in minus degree temperatures with a thin jacket. He stated this was all
he had for a coat. Not only did we give him a heavy coat, but he also walked
away with gloves, a hat and a broad smile!
Job Coaching
Good Shepherd Ministries offers the tools of success to people looking to be a
success. These tools range from business cards and resumes to counseling,
providing job leads and job search strategies. One of our success stories
includes a man who looked for work without success for six months. After
coaching him on his resume and interviewing, he obtained a job in three weeks!
Outreach of Care
Your financial gifts will accomplish our doing what we do best- giving others a
second chance with a fresh start. Social service and church referrals, materials
assistance, and providing clothing vouchers are just some of the approximately
fifteen simple, yet, effective services Good Shepherd does on a regular basis to
make our community a better place to live, pray and work
